Ragnarok: The New World Monk Guide

Monk is the second job of the Acolyte branch, added from the August 6, 2026 update.

You can use two fighting style: melee combo chains that end in one massive burst, and ranged Throw Spirit Sphere attacks. Both modes run on the same resource, Spirit Spheres, capped at five. See the full patch context in our August update guide.

Monk is a class built around resource management and timing. Five spheres can become a burst that kills a target, ten seconds of 90% damage reduction, an area crowd control, or a string of ranged attacks.

The Job Freedom system lets one character switch between class trees at any time with free stat and skill resets. Testing Monk costs you nothing.

How to unlock Monk

  • Monk is the 2nd job of the Acolyte branch: Novice > Acolyte > Monk > Champion.
  • Live on SEA since the August 6, 2026 maintenance.
  • TW/HK received Monk and Crusader on March 26, 2026, bundled with free job change.
  • SEA’s free job change had not been announced as of the August update; the official Crusader and Monk Experience Sharing Event accompanied the release. Check the job change NPC in game for the current requirement.
  • Champion is not confirmed live on SEA yet.

Spirit Spheres Skill

Charge skill summons one sphere and you can hold five max. Every skill either spends spheres or produces them, so your pool is the real cooldown on the class.

SkillSpheresWhat it does
Charge+1 (cap 5)Summons 1 Spirit Sphere; SP 5, 1s cooldown
Throw Spirit Sphere−1450% to 1314% Neutral ranged physical damage
Raging Thrust−1Combo finisher, 1050% to 2190%
Root−1Blocking stance, 10% to 28% damage reduction
Fury−5+5/10/15% physical damage for 600s, weapon size vs Large 100%
Guillotine Fist−5 + all SPBurst finisher; ends Fury, exhausts you 10s
Mental Strength−510% to 90% damage reduction for 10s, no active skills
Spiritual Cadence+1 per sec3s channel restoring 18% to 30% HP and SP per second

Rule of thumb: every sphere you spend is a skill you cannot use until it comes back. Throw Spirit Sphere has a 0.5s cooldown and can empty all five spheres in seconds. The Champion job later gets Zen, which refills all five instantly.

Combo chains

The melee combo is a timed sequence. Each follow-up must be used within 3 seconds of the previous skill.

StepSkillHitsPer hit (max)Total (max)
1Raging Trifecta Blow3533%1599%
2Raging Quadruple Blow6323%1938%
3Raging Thrust12190%2190%

Full monk chain at max level: 5727% Neutral melee damage.

Champion extends it with Glacier Fist and Chain Crush Combo, bringing the full chain to roughly 10,419% before Fury, Zen, equipment, and cards. Those champion numbers are estimates from TW/HK data and may change on SEA.

Guillotine Fist, called Asura Strike in some translations, is the burst finisher, not part of the chain. It requires Fury, consumes 5 spheres and all of your SP, and deals [(219 + remaining SP / 10) x 100]% forced Neutral damage at max level. The bigger your SP pool, the higher the damage. It ends Fury and exhausts you for 10 seconds. In PvP it adds 10% of the target’s current HP as bonus damage. The listed 5s cooldown is not the real limiter: rebuilding five spheres and your SP pool is.

Charged Strike (Lv. 120 shared skill, 120s cooldown) sets up the burst. At max level it deals 1490%, silences and roots for 2 seconds, and makes the target take 24.4% more damage for 2.48 seconds. Landing Guillotine Fist inside that window is the class’s one-punch moment.

RO The New World Monk Builds

No established SEA meta exists yet; the class has been live for a few days.

These builds are derived from the verified skill mechanics, not from tested community templates. Stat functions are confirmed across classes (STR scales melee physical power, AGI scales attack speed, DEX scales hit and ranged physical power, INT scales SP pool and healing), and resets are free, so test freely.

Combo Monk (solo PvE, leveling)

The bread-and-butter build. Max the three combo skills and Fury; keep Spiritual Cadence for sustain.

  • Stats: STR first, then AGI for attack speed. Faster chains beat bigger single hits while leveling.
  • Skills: Raging Trifecta Blow 5, Raging Quadruple Blow 25, Raging Thrust 30, Fury 3, Spiritual Cadence 5, Charge 1.
  • Cards: Bongun (melee PDMG, accessory), Doppelganger (ASPD, weapon), Magnolia (restore 2 SP per kill, weapon).
  • Acolyte tools that carry over: Heal, Blessing (+30 STR/INT/DEX, +20 HIT), Kyrie Eleison (shield up to 50% of max HP).

Sphere Monk (ranged, safe farming)

Throw Spirit Sphere at 1314% per sphere with a 0.5s cooldown makes this the safest farming build. You kite instead of trading hits.

  • Stats: DEX for ranged physical power and hit.
  • Skills: Throw Spirit Sphere 30, Charge 1, Spiritual Cadence 5, Root 5 (escape), Body Relocation 1.
  • Cards: Archer Skeleton (ranged PDMG, weapon), Orc Archer (ranged PDMG, accessory).
  • Weakness: five spheres empty fast. Cadence, reposition, repeat.

Asura Burst (MVP, PvP)

Everything feeds one skill: Guillotine Fist. SP pool is damage, so INT matters.

  • Stats: INT for SP pool, STR for the physical multiplier, enough VIT to survive the 10s exhaustion.
  • Skills: Guillotine Fist 30, Fury 3, Charge 1, Spiritual Cadence 5, Body Relocation 1, Charged Strike (setup window).
  • Cards: Willow (SP +180~300), Dracula (ATK +80, bonus while SP > 50%), Magnolia (SP per kill).
  • Rotation: Fury, 5 spheres, Charged Strike debuff, Guillotine Fist, then Cadence and retreat during exhaustion.

Defensive (PvP, Siege War)

Mental Strength is the tank skill: up to 90% damage reduction for 10 seconds. Root punishes attackers with silence and root.

  • Stats: VIT first, then STR.
  • Skills: Mental Strength 10, Root 10, Fury 3, Body Relocation 1.
  • Champion later adds Cursed Circle (area silence and root) and Sura Battle Spirit (damage reduction).

Monk Leveling Guide

The wild point system

Every character gets 3,600 wild points per day: 600 Monster Extermination plus 3,000 Healthy Combat. Only kills inside that budget give experience and item drops; kills beyond it drop headgear materials only. Burn your points every day, Healthy Combat does not carry over.

The 110% rule

Monsters 1 to 5 levels above you give 110% experience. Same-level mobs give 100%. Anything more than a few levels below you get almost nothing (a level 50 mob farmed at level 55 returns 2 EXP per kill; a level 60 mob returns 341). Use the in-game monster index, sorted by level, and hunt in the bracket above yours. A level 55 target sits in the sweet spot for most of the 50s.

BracketWhat works
1 to 20Story and starter zone; short side quests
20 to 40Field zones, party farming, monster-type matchups
40 to 60Dungeons, regional story, daily instances; the 50s need the wild point discipline above
60+Weekly content, MVP parties, event quests

Monk-specific leveling guide

  • Combos are single-target. In a packed farming spot, tag monsters with Throw Spirit Sphere or Holy Light (Acolyte AoE, 5 targets) for full credit on shared kills.
  • Spiritual Cadence replaces potions between pulls: 30% HP and SP over 3 seconds at max level.
  • Use auto-battle to spend wild points; it takes over an hour to burn 3,600 manually.
  • Day 1 after story and dailies lands around level 34; the current cap unlocks daily into the high 50s.

Monk Farming Guide

How card farming works

Each monster drops one specific card. A progress bar fills as you kill it, and at 100% the card drops guaranteed; the bar resets on any drop. Green and blue cards fill fast (the Yo-yo card went 0 to 100% in one day), purple cards fill slowly (Archer Skeleton 10% per 3,600 points, Minorous 1.5%). Spend wild points on monsters whose cards your build actually uses.

FAQ

When was Monk added to Ragnarok: The New World?

August 6, 2026, with the Prelude to the Peak update, alongside Crusader.

How do I become a Monk?

Reach Acolyte, then take the Monk job change. The SEA release came with a Crusader and Monk experience event; check the job change NPC for the current requirement.

Is Monk good for farming?

It is single-target by design. Combo Monk clears one mob fast; Sphere Monk farms safely from range. It does not have the area damage of Mage or Gunslinger.

Is Asura Strike the same as Guillotine Fist?

Yes. Guillotine Fist is the English name; Asura Strike appears in other versions and community videos.

Is Champion available on SEA?

Not confirmed as of August 8, 2026. Everything above it is a preview.

What stats does Monk need?

STR feeds the physical damage of combos and Guillotine Fist; AGI speeds up chains; DEX powers ranged sphere damage and hit; INT grows the SP pool that Guillotine Fist converts to damage.
